Biyografi

Özay, yüksek lisansını Marmara Üniversitesi Ortadoğu ve İslam Ülkeleri enstitüsünde ve doktora çalışmasını aynı üniversitenin Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Din Sosyolojisi bölümünde tamamladı. 2007-2010 yılları arasında Endonezya Cumhuriyeti Açe Eyaleti’ndeki bazı devlet ve özel üniversitelerde alanıyla ilgili dersler verdi. Bu dönemde, Osmanlı-Açe ilişkileri, Açe tarihi ve sosyolojisi alanlarında çalışmalar yaptı. 2010-2013 yılları arasında Malezya Teknoloji Üniversitesi (UTM) Eğitim Fakültesi’nde araştırmacı öğretim üyesi olarak çalıştı. Araştırmalarını Açe ve Malaya çerçevesinde sömürgecilik tarihi, sömürge sonrası bağımsızlık hareketleri ve Müslüman toplumların sosyolojisi üzerine devam ettirdi. Çalışmalarını çeşitli uluslararası konferanslarda bildirilerle gündeme taşırken, aynı zamanda İngilizce, Türkçe kaleme aldığı makaleleri ulusal, uluslararası yayın organlarında yayınlandı. Osmanlı Devleti ve Modern Türkiye Cumhuriyeti ile Malay dünyası ilişkileri, sömürgecilik etiği, misyonerlik vb. alanlarda çalışmalarına devam etmektedir.
